Team Megha meets officials of Bihar Disaster Management Authority

In June 2024, the Megha Climate Collaborative (MCC) team met with top officials of the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority (BSDMA), the nodal agency working to strengthen disaster response, reconstruction and rehabilitation activities through administrative and collaborative efforts in Bihar.

The BSDMA Vice Chairman Dr. Uday Kant and his team walked us through different approaches used to address disasters, and highlighted key initiatives undertaken to mitigate flood risks. Our Hydrology and Engineering team, led by Dr. Rajiv Sinha, and the Economics team, led by Dr. Sheetal Sekhri explained the MCC’s own approach integrating hydrological modelling with socio-economic factors to create effective and sustainable flood management strategies. The MCC team also highlighted the training program for grassroots women leaders that works towards enhancing local resilience to ensure equitable and inclusive solutions.

The BSDMA is keen to learn more about our socio-economic survey findings and collaborate to expand our study to other districts. They have assured us full co-operation.
